ASKING FOR HELP ISN’T EASY…IT FEELS LIKE A FAILURE
I came across this quote from psychotherapist Esther Perel (@estherperelofficial) on her podcast How’s Work. It’s very human to feel uncomfortable with asking for help. But I want to bring the idea that you can’t improve or learn without asking for help.
As an artist, you’re a consummate learner. Always looking at other art critically to learn something new. Even if you’re an established artist, you probably still take classes from other established artists you admire. You’re always learning, always asking for help.
Learning technology is the same.
It’s a skill that can be learned; there’s no such thing as talent in the tech industry or any industry, really. It’s about trying new things, failing, and trying again. Just like learning to paint, draw or do pottery.
I’ve been in the technology industry for decades and I am always asking for help by reading articles and watching videos from others who have already gone through the try-fail-try-again process.
Asking for help.
I want you to feel GOOD and SAFE asking for help about technology, newsletters, social media, and how to program your DVR.
My mission is to support women in feeling comfortable around technology.
I ask you to do this today, email me your tech, social media, newsletter, DVR anything question. I am happy to help!
Asking for help…to a person like me isn’t easy. It feels like a failure, the last resort – but perhaps a silver lining of this experience was learning that all of life’s blessings are on the other side of that phrase. What I, and so many others, are being greeted with is incredible. It reminded me I need to get out of my own head – problems can seem much bigger there – and workshop thoughts with others. More often than not, people are willing to shift things to make things happen for you, to jump on board, to show support. You just have to ask for help.Psychotherapist Esther Perel
