So You Want to Be a Successful Artist

Learn how to control your time.

As an artist, I know how easy it is to get lost in the moment. To follow my gut and go with the flow of things. This is great when I’m creating art, and it’s not so great when I need to get my tasks done.

It’s easy to be distracted. Email is my kryptonite. Maybe FaceBook, Instagram, or Tik Tok is yours. Regardless of which one it is, it’s easy to lose hours of productivity on a day you’ve set aside to get your work done.

Here’s how I manage my time.

First, I allow myself some chill time in the morning. I drink one cup of coffee, brush my cat, and read a book.

Why? Because the minute I start scrolling through my emails, I’ve lost 20 minutes at a minimum. I’m distracted from what I had planned to work on because “all these people” need a reply from me!

No. They. Don’t. Really.

SO, I don’t check email. I don’t go on social media. I sit down at my computer and do the work I have planned. Usually, it’s writing these posts or creating the graphics for them. And, because I use Trello to keep track of my post ideas, I don’t get lost watching cat videos when I’m researching the latest feature Instagram just released!
